Grant Recommendations

Welcome! Here are this week’s recommended foundations. These grants will be for various types of organizations, so they may not always be a perfect fit for you. However, there will be some that are. We also offer customized grant research reports that offer grants researched specifically for your organization, provide you with all of the submission requirements, deadlines, and a researched recommended request amount so that you can put your best effort forward when you apply.

This week’s focus is on Sports Programs. Some of the deadlines may have passed, but you can keep this information for their next funding cycle.

Lakers Youth Foundation

The Los Angeles Lakers Youth Foundation’s goal is to assist nonprofit community organizations based on need. The Foundation focuses on the use of sports to promote education, teamwork and self-esteem among Los Angeles area youth. Grantmaking directly supports these initiatives by providing financial assistance to children and local youth programs.
The requested grant amount cannot exceed 50% of the project budget. A full description of the project and a financial breakdown must be provided.
Applications are reviewed quarterly with the following deadlines: March 15, June 15, Sept. 15 and Dec. 15. An organization may submit during any quarter but may receive funding only once per 12-month period.

Lyon Foundation

The Lyon Foundation makes general support grants in Arkansas for programs and services focused on animals/wildlife (specifically racehorses), health organizations, and religion (Christianity, Protestantism, and Presbyterian).
Other funding areas of interest include biodiversity, diseases and disorders, education (higher), environment, sports, recreation, veterinary medicine, and wildlife.
Interested applicants should submit a letter of inquiry. There is no application deadline. The foundation does not have a website at this time.

Hy and Greta Berkowitz Foundation

The Hy and Greta Berkowitz Foundation grant making is focused mainly in Grand Rapids, MI and Middleton, OH. Grants are made limitedly in other states, including New Jersey and Massachusetts.
Grants are made in the interest areas of arts and culture, diseases and conditions, health, museums, religion, sports, and youth development.
An application form is not required. Interested applicants should submit a letter of inquiry which includes a copy of the IRS determination letter, a detailed description of the proposed project, the amount of funding requested, and contact information.
There is no application deadline. The foundation does not have a website at this time.
